The term Dual Exceptionality refers to people who are both gifted and learning disabled, or who are gifted with an Attention Deficit Disorder. Many dual exceptionality children do not receive appropriate services because their significant strengths and weaknesses are often hard to identify. The end result is that they do not receive the additional services needed to challenge their giftedness or help compensate for disabilities. Dual exceptionality individuals and their families also may benefit from consultation and/or counseling services. We are especially interested in early diagnosis and counseling of gifted students who may have learning disabilities, learning differences, or ADHD/ADD, which make either one of these exceptionalities especially difficult for schools, parents, and individuals to recognize.
